Pope Francis's visit to Cyprus has highlighted the plight of migrants, with the pontiff condemning 'slavery' and 'torture' in migrant camps.
Speaking at a mass in Nicosia on December 3, 2021, Francis drew parallels with World War II, saying 'what happened then is happening today on nearby coasts.'
He warned that 'we have become used to it', describing the normalization of migrant suffering as a 'very serious illness.'
Francis praised 'the dream of a humanity freed of walls of division, freed of hostility', emphasizing the importance of diversity and individuality as 'God's gifts.'
During his visit, Francis heard testimonies from migrants from countries including Iraq, Sri Lanka, and Cameroon, and is expected to take back 50 migrants with him.
