On December 3, 2021, the High Court Judicial Review Division dismissed a petition seeking to have businessman Jimi Wanjigi arrested over alleged illegal possession of secret firearms.
The petition, filed by activist Memba Ocharo, claimed that Wanjigi had weapons more powerful than most police stations in the country and posed a security threat to the public.
According to court documents, Wanjigi has in his possession over 688 rounds of ammunition and 11 guns, which are authorized for military use only.
However, in a ruling issued on Friday, December 3, Justice Anthony Ndung'u dismissed the petition, stating that the application did not meet the legal threshold for the grant of the prayer.
DCI George Kinoti, Wanjigi, Ocharo, and the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, were granted seven days to file their pleadings before the next hearing set for January 25, 2022.
