President Uhuru Kenyatta has praised the National Police Service (NPS) for its crucial role in containing the spread of Coronavirus in Kenya over the last two years.
Speaking at the 57th passing out parade of 2,619 new administration police officers at Embakasi A Campus in Nairobi County, President Kenyatta commended the NPS for adapting to the new demands imposed by the pandemic.
“The firmness of our resolve as a nation helped to contain the surge of infections within our borders. In keeping the invisible enemy at bay, I thank the law enforcement agencies for the role they have played in enforcing the Covid-19 regulations and protocols,” President Kenyatta said.
He also urged the new officers to continuously improve their competencies, noting that they would be required to operate in new and challenging environments.
President Kenyatta reiterated the Government’s commitment to ongoing NPS reforms, which have seen over 45,000 new police officers join the service since 2013.
He also cautioned the new officers against engaging in corruption and other workplace vices, assuring them that the Government would shield them from unjust condemnation.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i also spoke at the ceremony, thanking the President for the Government’s continued investment in the security sector.
