The National Council of NGOs is gearing up to promote peace and harmony across Kenya ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Through the 'Mwananchi Peace Initiative,' the council aims to encourage citizens to maintain peace and reject any form of incitement to violence or hatred before, during, and after the elections.

Council Chairperson Stephen Cheboi emphasized the importance of peace caravans, stating, "The Council and Members will participate in peace caravans across the country, concentrating on conflict and violence-prone areas in parts of the country."

As the country experiences heightened political tension, Cheboi challenged politicians to make peace pledges, warning that growing disquiet in some areas could jeopardize the credibility of the polls.

"Where there is violence or intimations, there will be no fair and credible polls can be held, and thus the need for all Kenyans to maintain peace," Cheboi added.

The NGO Council, with over 12,000 registered groups, will reach out to all political players to ensure peaceful and credible elections.

Kenya is set to hold its national elections on August 9, 2022.
