Published on November 25, 2021, a Safaricom employee was charged with illegally obtaining Sh1.4 million by adjusting Fuliza limits for different SIM cards.
Dennis Mutethia Muga, an engineer of financial services system planning, denied the charge before Kibera senior principal magistrate Monica Maroro.
According to a police report, Muga was employed at Safaricom and dealt with software. Preliminary investigations show that on October 24, 30, and 31, Fuliza limits of 14 lines were irregularly adjusted to abnormal limits ranging between Sh100,000 and Sh10 million.
Police alleged that Muga stole the said amount by allowing other people who purported to be his friends to use different Safaricom lines to increase their Fuliza limit from Sh3,500 to Sh50,000 and then get credit through Fuliza amounting to Sh1.4 million.
Muga requested the court to release him on lenient bond terms, stating that he was not a flight risk and requested to be supplied with witness statements that the prosecution would rely on during the entire trial.
Maroro released him on Sh1 million bond or Sh500,000 bail. The matter will be mentioned early next month for pretrial.
