On November 23, 2021, the Kenyan government announced plans to accelerate the registration of community lands in 24 counties inhabited by pastoralist communities.

Lands and Physical Planning Chief Administrative Secretary Alex Mburi stated that the government is working closely with relevant stakeholders, including county governments, to ensure that community lands are issued with title deeds.

According to Mburi, the registration of community lands will bring an end to land conflicts in areas such as Laikipia, Samburu, Isiolo, and Baringo.

As part of the initiative, the government has deployed lands registrars, physical planners, and surveyors to the affected counties to hasten the registration process.

Laikipia North Member of Parliament Sarah Lekorere emphasized that the Community Land Act will enhance proper land acquisition and promote peace among pastoralist communities.

The Community Lands Summit, organized by Indigenous Movement for Peace Advancement & Conflict Transformation (IMPACT) and the National Lands Commission (NLC), brought together representatives from pastoralist communities to chart the way forward on the implementation of the Community Land Act of 2016.

Leaders present at the summit included Laikipia Deputy Governor John Mwaniki, Samburu Deputy Governor Julius Reseto, National Lands Commissioner Tiyaha Galgalo, and area County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri.

Laikipia North sub-county has already seen success, with the Ilgw'esi community land measuring 8675 hectares and the Mosul community land measuring 2646 hectares acquiring their title deeds.
