On July 6, 2019, Molo MP Kimani Kuria made headlines after attending an anti-illicit brew meeting in a state of intoxication. The incident occurred at a public meeting in Elburgon, where Kuria was scheduled to discuss the menace of illicit brews.
According to eyewitnesses, Kuria had to be practically hoisted over the fence and supported to his seat before he was eventually ushered away from the venue. The meeting, chaired by Molo Deputy County Commissioner Wanyonyi, ended in disarray as angry residents threatened to rough him up.
Speaking at Chesingele village in his constituency, Kuria apologized to Kenyans and his constituents, stating that the incident would not dampen his resolve to fight illicit brew in Molo. He urged his constituents to join him in the anti-liquor war, saying, “I am sorry for what happened and I want to tell my people that it will never happen again.”
Kuria emphasized that the incident was a clear indication that the war on illicit brew needs serious commitment, as anyone can fall prey, including the high and mighty in society. The MP pledged to continue serving his constituents by initiating development projects.
