On November 22, 2021, reigning Africa Champion Carl 'Flash' Tundo secured his fourth win of the season, moving closer to the Kenya National Rally Championship title, at the KCB Thika Rally.
Tundo, navigated by longstanding co-driver Tim Jessop in a Mitsubishi Evolution 10, clocked 01:47:09.1 hours to beat series Champion Baldev Chager by 00:29.4 seconds.
Despite a puncture in the opening stage, Tundo rallied from fifth fastest in the Buffalo Hills section to emerge victorious.
Chager made good progress throughout the rally, but ultimately finished second, earning bonus championship points for winning the power stage.
Navigator Ravi Soni was left to rue their nightmarishly first loop experience, which included a broken rear left driveshaft and a lost minute.
Out of the 16 starters, only seven managed the demanding conditions at MKU Thika campus, with three competitors disqualified for going off the route.
Both Piero Canobbio and Aakif Virani were fined Ksh. 20,000 for twice deviating from the route course, while Steve Mwangi was fined Ksh. 20,000 and an additional Ksh. 10,000 for failing to honor the summons of the stewards.
The KCB Guru Nanak Rally will wrap up the 2021 KNRC season in Stony Athi on December 12.
