Published on November 22, 2021, South Africa's Migration National Service (Senami) spokesperson, Celestino Matsinhe, revealed that more than 300 Mozambican nationals were deported in one week.

According to Matsinhe, the main cause of deportation was illegal immigration, with 296 individuals being deported for this reason alone.

Between November 6 and 12, a total of 317 Mozambicans were deported from South Africa, with 309 being men and eight women.

The deported individuals hailed from various provinces in Mozambique, including Maputo, Gaza, Inhambane, Manica, Sofala, Zambézia, Nampula, and Niassa.

It is worth noting that last year, South Africa repatriated 589 Mozambican nationals who had been pardoned after serving part of their prison terms.

As members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), both Mozambique and South Africa have a complex relationship, with South Africa being the largest economy and most developed SADC state.
