On November 21, 2021, a Ligue 1 game between Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille was abandoned after Dimitri Payet was hit by a water bottle thrown from the stands.

According to the stadium announcer, referee Ruddy Buquet halted play in the fifth minute, citing that safety conditions were not met.

Payet fell to the ground as he was getting ready to take a corner kick and was left the pitch with an ice pack on his head.

He was hit by a water bottle thrown by a fan, leading to the game being interrupted.

Payet's injury was a result of the ongoing crowd trouble in Ligue 1 this season.

Earlier in the season, Nice were docked two points, one of them suspended, after serious incidents during their game against Marseille.

There have been several instances of crowd trouble in Ligue 1 this season, including the northern derby between RC Lens and Lille, which was hit by crowd problems in September.
