South Africa's director of rugby, Rassie Erasmus, may not be present at Twickenham on Saturday, but his spirit will undoubtedly be felt by the Springboks as they face England in their first match since the 2019 World Cup final.
Erasmus's two-month ban from all rugby activity, imposed for his criticism of referee Nic Berry in July, has sparked a sense of motivation among the Springboks.
Assistant coach Mzwandile Stick described Erasmus as 'a very special guy' who cares deeply for the team and its players.
Stick said: 'We know how much he cares for us. We know how much he cares for everyone and his spirit will always be there.'
Erasmus's absence will not deter the Springboks, who are eager to prove themselves against England, a team they have not faced since their World Cup final win in Yokohama.
South Africa captain Siya Kolisi expressed his confusion over England coach Eddie Jones's claim that he had accused the Red Rose pack of being 'weak' following the World Cup final.
Kolisi said: 'I'm still trying to figure out when I said all those things. I never speak about the other team in that way.'
