On July 6, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, when a 28-year-old woman, Florence Wanjiru, was thrown out of a moving matatu, resulting in her untimely death.
According to eyewitnesses, Wanjiru was seen boarding a matatu heading home from her workplace at Yongli casino and restaurant in Hurlingham. However, at dusk, her parents received a distress call from a good Samaritan, informing them that Wanjiru had been involved in a mysterious accident and was severely injured.
Wanjiru's uncle, John Chege, recounted the events of that fateful day, saying, 'Once we got the call, we rushed to the hospital to see her, and she was in bad condition.'
Despite being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Wanjiru allegedly remained unattended for nearly a whole day before succumbing to her injuries.
Her mother, Beatrice Wanjiru, narrated the horrific incident, stating, 'The conductor hit me on the head with a metal rod and then threw me out of the vehicle.'
Police have launched a manhunt for the rogue crew, with the driver already in custody. However, the conductor who is seen ushering Wanjiru to board the bus has gone into hiding.
Michael Muchiri, Kilimani OCPD, assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, saying, 'All indicators are clear that the Sacco is Killeton. We already have one suspect in custody, the driver...we are continuing with the investigations.'
The family of the late Wanjiru is demanding speedy investigations into the incident and wants Killeton Sacco to produce the tout believed to be behind Wanjiru's death.
