On November 19, 2021, the Nairobi chapter of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) threatened to eject Justice Said Juma Chitembwe from his chambers over corruption allegations.

Nairobi LSK chairman Eric Theuri stated that he would mobilize other lawyers to push Chitembwe out of office if the Judicial Service Commission fails to investigate the troubled judge within 14 days.

The move comes after a video leaked by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko implicated the judge in a corruption scandal.

Chitembwe was among the 10 applicants vying for the chief justice post after David Maraga retired in April 2021.

During his interview, Chitembwe broke down while responding to questions about his 2009 corruption case, which he denied.

He emphasized the importance of judges objectively sifting through cases to determine those laced with malice from authentic ones.

LSK has asked Chitembwe to examine his moral compass and resign if the allegations against him are true.

Lawyers in Nairobi have vowed to lead a protest march to eject Chitembwe and boycott his court until the allegations are processed.
