On November 19, 2021, the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) held a recruitment exercise in Kitui Central Sub-County, attracting a low turn-out of jobless young men and women.

Seven youths were selected to join the KDF during the exercise, which was held at Ithokwe showgrounds in Kitui town.

According to Thomas Lesiyaloi, a Senior Officer at the Kenya Navy and In-Charge of the recruitment process, no incidents of corruption or cheating were reported during the exercise.

Lesiyaloi also confirmed that there were no cases of fake academic certificates presented by the candidates.

"We are keen when recruiting in all the categories, as long as candidates meet the required academic qualifications, and the process of recruitment has also tasks which the selected candidates qualify upon meeting them," Lesiyaloi said.

"The tasks involved tough exercises to confirm physical fitness of the candidates, and in some cases, we take them through toxicology for presence of Marijuana and other drugs to confirm the best candidates we want," he added.
