On November 18, a Nairobi court handed down a four-month prison sentence to Kenya's Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, for contempt of court.
The sentence comes after Kinoti failed to comply with a court order to return firearms confiscated from businessman Jimi Wanjigi.
High Court judge Anthony Mrima directed the Inspector-General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, to effect the warrant against Kinoti if he fails to surrender himself to prison officials within seven days.
Kinoti's contempt of court sentence follows his failure to appear in court in September after being summoned by the judge.
As part of the original court order, Kinoti was given 30 days in February to return Wanjigi's firearms, which had been confiscated on June 21, 2019, by Justice Chacha Mwita.
The confiscated firearms include a Smith and Wesson pistol, a Glock pistol, an assault rifle attached with a laser, a Glock 19 pistol, and an M4CQ assault rifle.
