On November 19, 2021, Airtel announced the upgrade of its Africa Developer Portal to facilitate easier access to its mobile money services across multiple business sectors and regions on the continent.
The upgraded portal integrates remote payments with Airtel Money wallets, providing a seamless experience for merchants and e-commerce businesses to create, discover, and integrate into the fast-growing library of Open APIs.
With the upgraded portal, Airtel Money is better enabled to respond to the rise in popularity around digital money services and e-commerce platforms across Africa.
Over 400 businesses are now actively using the service in the pilot phase across different African markets, benefiting from various sectors such as e-commerce, pay-as-you-go solar, cross-border remittances, insurance, government services, healthcare, agricultural technology companies, crowdfunding, ride-hailing, savings, and credit operatives.
Businesses can access the developer portal and Airtel's API library by visiting https://developers.airtel.africa/developer and signing up to get started.
Once logged in, businesses can explore the API documentation and start integrating by registering an application, adding new products for single or multiple countries, and going live after onboarding and integration.
Airtel's Africa Digital Labs created the Developer Portal, which builds technology platforms and digital products to develop cutting-edge solutions for the company's customers.
