Published on November 19, 2021, a day after sentencing Director of the DCI George Kinoti to 4 months in prison, High Court Judge Anthony Mrima has vowed to continue discharging his duties despite receiving threats from senior state officers.

According to Judge Mrima, he is not new to threats from state officers over what they termed as “unfavourable rulings” against the State. He recalled a recent incident where he was approached by an emissary sent by a senior state officer, who warned him to stop issuing ‘unfavourable orders’.

“Recently I handled a matter and issued some orders. The orders were directed towards some senior state officers. I was surprised to be approached by an emissary sent by one of the said state officers,” Mrima said.

He revealed that the emissary threatened him that if he did not heed the warning, he would be dealt with firmly. Judge Mrima also recalled that during the last election cycle, he handled a poll petition where several emissaries were sent to him to intimidate him but he held his ground.

His house was burgled into, and it was ransacked. Save for a safe which was carried away, everything else was left in the house. Despite these threats and intimidation, Judge Mrima vowed to continue discharging his functions in the best way possible without fear or favour.
