Kamiti Prison Escapees: Three Terror Convicts Arrested in Mwingi East

On November 15, three terror convicts escaped from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison in Nairobi under unclear circumstances. The escapees were later arrested in Mwingi East, Kenya, on November 18, 2021.

The suspects, Musharaf Abdalla alias Alex Shikanda, Joseph Juma Odhiambo, and Mohammed Ali Abikar, were arrested after receiving a tip-off from locals. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations had announced a reward of Ksh60 million for information leading to their capture.

Musharaf Abdalla, also known as Zarkawi, was arrested in 2012 for his involvement in a foiled terrorist attack on Parliament Buildings in Nairobi. He was charged with possession of explosives, ammunition, and firearms.

Abdalla hails from Ekero area in Mumias, Kakamega County. Mohamed Ali Abikar was arrested following his involvement in the Garissa University attack on April 2, 2015.

Joseph Juma Odhiambo, alias Yusuf, was arrested in 2019 while attempting to enlist with Al-Shabaab in Somalia. He comes from Lukoye area in Mumias.
