DCI Kinoti Sentenced to Four Months in Prison ¶
On November 19, 2021, DCI George Kinoti was sentenced to four months in prison without bail for disobeying a court order to return seven seized firearms to businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.
According to a court ruling, Kinoti had refused to comply with a June 21, 2019, court order to return the firearms seized by police during a raid on Wanjigi's homes in Nairobi and Mombasa.
High Court Judge Antony Mrima made the ruling after Kinoti was found guilty of disobeying the court order. Judge Mrima also warned Kinoti that if he failed to comply with the order, he would be arrested and taken to prison upon his retirement.
"If the IG of Police fails to execute the warrant, the same shall remain valid and be executed anytime including when Kinoti leaves the office of the DCI," Judge Mrima said.
Judge Mrima also ordered Kinoti to report to the prison authorities immediately to begin serving his sentence. If Kinoti fails to comply, Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai will be authorized to arrest him and take him to prison.
"Inspector General of Police has been directed to arrest Kinoti and take him to prison," Judge Mrima ordered.
