World Athletics has shortlisted Athletics Kenya (AK) for the prestigious 2021 Member Federation Award, set to be announced on December 1st, 2021.
The award recognizes national governing bodies that have gone above and beyond to serve their athletes, fans, and the greater community.
AK will compete with five other federations: Athletics Australia, Czech Athletic Federation, Federacion Costarricense de Atletismo, Federacion Ecuatoriana de Atletismo, and Japan Association of Athletics Federation.
Kenya's impressive athletic achievements in 2021, including its leading position on the medals table at international events, have earned it a spot among the finalists.
The country's success in endurance disciplines, as well as its diversity in events like the 100m, where Ferdinand Omanyala set an African record, have contributed to its nomination.
Kenya's hosting of the World U20 Championships and the Continental Tour Gold meeting in Nairobi, as well as its involvement in the UN's Sports for Climate Action initiative, have also been recognized.
