On November 16, 2021, an American woman named Daria Antrese shared her experience on Twitter, highlighting the affordability of hair braiding in Kenya.
She posted a video showing her long braids moments before leaving the salon, stating, 'I got my hair braided in Kenya Africa today for 22$ they are knotless & passed my butt. I love it here.'
Her tweet sparked a conversation among Kenyans on Twitter, with some users suggesting that salons should charge foreigners similar rates as in their home countries.
One user, @iamzelipher, commented, 'And if she knew that KSh 2400 is still expensive she will faint. Making hair on an average is between KSh 500 and KSh 1000.'
Another user, @LyciaJay, added, 'Omg! These are beautiful sis! I really hate America because these are easily charging KSh 50k without the hair and washing and blow-drying not included.'
