Kenya's security agencies are on high alert following the escape of three terror convicts from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, which has prompted the government to tighten security measures at airports and Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) stations.
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, the government has changed the screening systems at airports such as Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
A new scanning machine will also be installed at SGR stations in Nairobi and Mombasa to enhance security.
These measures are aimed at preventing potential terror attacks, following a string of attacks in the region, including a twin suicide bombing in Uganda's capital Kampala that killed three people and injured 33 others.
"We have changed the screening system to the airport, we have changed the screening system at the SGR and you are going to notice that," said Matiang'i.
"Fellow Kenyans, you will be inconvenienced because we are not in the normal space at the moment. We have raised the level of alert and we must be careful about what we do around here," he added.
