On November 18, 2021, the Kenyan football fraternity was left in a state of uncertainty as former Harambee Stars tacticians Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee and Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno spoke out against a potential FIFA ban for Kenya.
The ban, which could be a result of the appointment of a caretaker committee formed by Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Arts Amina Mohamed, has left many in the football community worried.
According to Zico, the situation requires wise thought and consideration, likening it to the biblical story of Solomon and the two men and the baby.
'This situation needs a lot of wise thought like how Solomon solved the case of the two men and the baby in the bible. People who are celebrating or welcoming the FIFA ban are not directly involved in football. Look at coaches, referees, players-none of them is for the ban,' Zico said.
Mulee echoed Zico's sentiments, expressing his displeasure with the caretaker committee's composition and the potential consequences of a FIFA ban.
'I am perturbed because when government interferes a ban is what follows and the truth it is while football has many stakeholders it is the players that will suffer the most. No player will be able to leave the country and those who are abroad won't be able to move clubs,' Ghost said.
Both coaches emphasized that the ban would have far-reaching consequences, affecting not only players but also coaches and referees.
As the situation unfolds, the football community remains on high alert, waiting to see how the situation will be resolved.
