On Saturday, the Ruiru Golf Club will host the 22nd and penultimate leg of the 2021 NCBA Golf Series, marking a significant milestone in the tournament's debut season. The event, which teed off in January this year, has attracted a total of 2,800 golfers since its inception.
Of these, 100 golfers have qualified to play at the Series Grand Finale, scheduled to take place in December at the Karen Country Club. The top five finishers at each of the 20 seniors golf events held in the calendar have secured their spots, comprising the overall winner, men's winner and runner-up, and the ladies' winner and runner-up.
Additionally, three junior golfers who emerged overall winners at their respective club events at Karen, Limuru, and Royal Golf Clubs will also participate in the grand finale. This move aligns with the Series' objective of nurturing golf talent at an early stage and preparing them to compete against the world's best at global golf events.
NCBA has encouraged junior golfers to participate in its seniors' events and has held a stand-alone junior golf series, which brought together 85 juniors for a two-day contest at the Karen Country Club in August this year. The top 43 finishers were selected to participate in the Rome Classic golf event in October and the Big Five tournament in South Africa in 2021.
Speaking ahead of the Ruiru Golf Club event, NCBA Group Managing Director, John Gachora, expressed his delight at the tournament's progress. 'We are grateful to everyone who has made the Series a success and look forward to the challenge that awaits on the course this Saturday,' he said.
