17 Robbery Suspects Escape from Police Vehicle in Nairobi

On Friday, July 5, 2019, a dramatic escape occurred in Nairobi as 17 robbery suspects broke out of a police vehicle near Kamukunji mosque along Ladhies road.

According to reports, the escapees managed to break part of the left side of the grills and made their way out of the vehicle.

The suspects were being transported to Industrial Area Prisons when the incident occurred. They had been charged with robbery with violence.

Officer in charge Paul Nangiro confirmed the incident, stating that the prisoners had been charged with robbery with violence.

Initially, 19 inmates escaped, but two were recaptured in Marikiti area following an intense manhunt. The two recaptured suspects sustained various gun shot injuries and were taken to Thika Level Five Hospital for treatment.

They will be arraigned in court on Monday, July 8, 2019.
