Three terrorists who escaped from Kamiti Maximum Prison on November 16, 2021, were finally caught in Kitui on November 18, 2021, after a three-day manhunt.
According to reports, the trio, comprising Musharraf Abdalla, Joseph Juma, and Mohammed Abdi, were attempting to flee to neighboring Somalia when they were apprehended.
Following their escape, President Uhuru Kenyatta held an emergency meeting at State House with security officials, where he announced the sacking of the Commissioner General of Prisons Service, Wycliffe Ogalo.
Heavily armed detectives raided the Prisons Service headquarters and whisked away the prisons' boss, who was later accompanied home.
The president also ordered disciplinary action against all Kenya Prisons Service personnel who were on duty during the security breaches, including redeployment and immediate suspension of affected officers.
Additionally, the president ordered action to be taken against anyone found guilty of aiding the escape of the convicts.
