Deliberations Continue in Rittenhouse Trial

On Wednesday, jurors in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial deliberated for a second full day, indicating that they may be struggling with the complexities of their task to consider Mr. Rittenhouse's culpability in the five criminal counts he faces.

Mr. Rittenhouse, 18, is on trial for first-degree intentional homicide and other charges after fatally shooting two men and maiming another during civil unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020.

During the deliberations, the defense team requested a mistrial for a second time, citing a disputed drone video that depicts the fatal shooting of Joseph Rosenbaum, the first man Mr. Rittenhouse shot. The defense argued that prosecutors had provided them with a lower-quality version of the video before the trial, while the higher-quality version was shown to the jury during testimony.

Judge Bruce Schroeder indicated that he would address the motion for a mistrial, but did not immediately rule on it. He suggested that he could rule on the motion at any time, including after a verdict.

Outside the courthouse, several dozen protesters gathered, arguing, shouting obscenities, and chanting 'No mistrial, no mistrial.' At least two people were detained after a fight on Wednesday afternoon, and a man carrying an AR-15-style rifle was asked by a sheriff's deputy to put it away.
