Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has hit back at Deputy President William Ruto's remarks that he is supporting Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential election.

On November 17, 2021, Governor Murungi responded to the Deputy President's comments through his Twitter account, calling them 'baseless and devoid of any substance.'

"The people of Meru want to hear about policies that will improve our agricultural sector, particularly tea, coffee, miraa, dairy farming, and other economic ventures, not empty rhetoric," he said.

"Don't claim that you are the only one who deserves our support, and that we should not consider other presidential candidates. Meru is our home," Governor Murungi added.

He emphasized that the people of Meru are free to listen to other presidential candidates before making their final decision.

Governor Murungi asked Deputy President Ruto to seek the votes of the people of Meru with humility and respect, without forcing or coercing them.
