On November 17, 2021, Justice Rose Ougo of Kisii High Court handed down a 40-year prison sentence to George Morara, 50, for the murder of his wife Jessica Moraa.
According to the court, Morara was found guilty of killing Moraa and dumping her body in a pit latrine in Nyamariba, Kisii County.
Justice Ougo stated that the court had considered all the evidence presented, which showed that Morara was a serious offender with a history of crime, including theft, abuse of drugs, and extortion.
The judge also noted that a probation officer's report indicated that Morara's family members wanted nothing to do with him, and releasing him would cause harm to the community.
Despite the defence counsel's plea for leniency, citing Morara's alleged terminal illness and reformation while in custody, Justice Ougo ruled that there was no proof of the illness and that Morara deserved a stiff penalty to serve as a lesson to others.
