On November 13, 2021, Nelson Otsianda, a teacher from Buruburu Girls High School, checked into Gisimba Villas in Diani, Kwale County, for a short vacation with four colleagues.

Tragically, the same day they arrived, Otsianda's lifeless body was found in the hotel's swimming pool.

A post-mortem report conducted at Jocham Hospital mortuary revealed that Otsianda's body did not have any injuries, contradicting earlier allegations that he was killed and thrown into the water.

According to Msambweni police boss Fanuel Nasio, the post-mortem results showed that Otsianda had no soft tissue injuries on his body, suggesting that he was not assaulted.

Nasio further stated that it was possible that Otsianda was drunk and fell into the water, not knowing how to swim.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the group of friends were drinking by the pool and playing loud music on the day of the incident.

They also claimed that police officers took long to arrive, forcing them to hire a boda boda to ferry Otsianda to Diani Beach Hospital.
