On November 17, 2021, residents of Manyatta slums in Kisumu County tipped off community policing members about two suspicious individuals masquerading as street kids.
Elvis Odhiambo and Muhammad Adan had escaped from Kapsoya Police Station four days prior and were pretending to be street boys in the area.
Francis Aluko, a member of the community policing team, stated that they received reports of suspicious individuals and launched a manhunt, eventually finding the suspects carrying plastic waste and polythene at around 7am.
The suspects were briefly detained by residents before being taken into police custody.
Kisumu Central OCPD James Ngetich confirmed the incident, describing it as sensitive and stating that Eldoret detectives were searching for the suspects.
However, Ngetich clarified that the duo was not being held as terror suspects, but rather as robbery with violence suspects.
