On July 6, 2019, a group of orphans living at Zion Children's Home in Kasarani were suddenly evicted from their premises, leaving them without a home.

According to Margaret Mwangi, the founder of the centre, the eviction was a result of a long-standing feud over land ownership. The centre had been renting the land for over a decade, but some family members were opposed to the centre's plans to purchase the land.

"We have been living here for the past 10 years and there is no single month that we have failed to pay rent. If anything, we have paid in excess of Sh 110, 000," Margaret told Nairobi News.

Despite their efforts to negotiate with the family members, the centre had not received an eviction notice. However, on the day of the eviction, Margaret received a call informing her of the centre's closure.

A neighbor who witnessed the eviction described seeing four men storming out of the centre's main house, carrying household items. The centre, which hosts 60 children, was left without a home, leaving the orphans in a state of despair.
