On June 30, 2019, Beatrice Acen, a 35-year-old woman from Uganda, attacked her husband, Moses Okot, a 46-year-old peasant farmer, after he refused to have sex with her as punishment for her continuous heavy drinking.
According to reports, Mrs. Acen returned home at 10 pm, intoxicated, and demanded sex from her husband, who had returned home from hunting earlier that day.
Mr. Okot stated that he had gone to sleep after eating, only to be awoken by his wife's attack, during which she slashed his penis off.
Mr. Okot was taken to the local police station to file a complaint against his wife before being rushed to Apac main hospital for medical treatment.
The chairman of the village where the couple lives revealed that this was not the first time Mrs. Okot had resorted to violence when her husband denied her advances, citing an incident last year in which she broke her husband's collar bone during a domestic fight.
Domestic violence is a significant problem in Uganda, particularly in northern Uganda where Mr. Okot's village is located.
