On November 12, 2021, Nairobi County acting Governor Ann Kananu was set to be sworn in as the substantive Governor of Nairobi City County, following a series of court battles.
Her swearing-in was initially scheduled for January 15, 2021, after she was sworn in as the Deputy Governor, but it was challenged by Mike Sonko through civil appeal No E228 of 2021.
However, on October 22, 2021, the Court of Appeal paved the way for her swearing-in after dismissing a petition filed by Sonko.
Despite Sonko's attempts to block her assumption of office, the Supreme Court dismissed his application in Application No 14(E022) of 2021, paving the way for Kananu to assume the office of Governor.
She will be sworn in on November 16, 2021, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, COMESA grounds at 10 am, with a judge from the High Court facilitating the administration of the oath.
