IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has been urged to ensure that the August 2022 general elections are free and fair by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On November 11, 2021, Raila Odinga stated that he would accept defeat in the upcoming elections if they are conducted fairly.
‘If the elections are conducted fairly – without any form of rigging – and I lose, I will accept the results. Anyone who refuses to accept defeat is not a competitor,' Raila Odinga said in an interview with a local radio station.
However, Raila Odinga also called on Chebukati to apologize to Kenyans for ‘mismanaging' the 2017 general elections, which were nullified by the Supreme Court.
‘I expect Chebukati to assure Kenyans that the August 2022 general elections will be free and fair. I also expect him to apologize for mismanaging the 2017 elections,' Raila Odinga said.
However, Jubilee leaders have accused Chebukati of being biased towards the UDA party led by William Ruto and have called for his resignation.
‘Chebukati has no option but to assure Kenyans that the August 2022 general elections will be free and fair. He should also apologize for mismanaging the 2017 elections,' Raila Odinga said.
