Published on November 12, 2021, US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will embark on a six-day visit to Kenya, Nigeria, and Senegal from November 15-20, 2021.
The visit underscores the depth and breadth of US relationships with African partners, with a focus on advancing US-Africa collaboration on shared global priorities.
According to a statement from his office, Secretary Blinken will advance US-Africa collaboration on shared global priorities, including ending the COVID-19 pandemic, building back to a more inclusive global economy, combating the climate crisis, revitalizing democracies, and advancing peace and security.
During his visit to Nairobi, Secretary Blinken will meet with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Raychelle Omamo to affirm the strategic partnership between the US and Kenya.
The Secretary will also discuss regional security issues, including Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan, with representatives of the Kenyan government.
Additionally, Secretary Blinken will advance US-Kenyan cooperation on ending COVID-19, improving clean energy access, and protecting the environment.
He will also underscore US support for a peaceful and inclusive Kenyan election in 2022.
From Abuja, Secretary Blinken will travel to Dakar, where he will meet with President Macky Sall and Foreign Minister Aïssata Tall Sall to reaffirm the close partnership between the US and Senegal.
