On November 6, 2021, a devastating fire broke out at Kakamega Boys High School, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
According to a notice dated November 11, the school's administration has estimated the total damages to be Sh21,611,360.
With 2,200 students affected, each parent will be expected to pay Sh9,823 to cover the costs.
As per the Ministry of Transport Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works report, the Bill of Quantities for the burnt dormitory stands at Sh12,185,540.00.
The cost of CCTV installation and double-decker beds for the affected students is estimated at Sh695,420.00 and Sh4,536,000.00 respectively.
Students are expected to report back to school between November 15 and November 25, accompanied by their parents.
Form Four students are to report on November 15, while Forms One, Two, and Three learners should return on November 21, 23, and 25 respectively.
The school has promised to provide a mattress, two blankets, and two bedsheets to the students whose items were burnt in the fire.
