On November 12, 2021, FIFA issued a stern warning to Kenya, threatening to impose a ban on the country's football team if the government's decision to install a caretaker committee to run the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is not reversed.

The warning came in a letter from FIFA's Chief Member Association Officer, Kenny Jean-Marie, to FKF Chief Executive Officer, Barry Otieno. In the letter, Jean-Marie emphasized that FIFA member associations, including the FKF, are required to manage their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties.

According to FIFA, the government's decision to appoint a caretaker committee is a clear breach of this principle, and could lead to sanctions, including a ban on the FKF. The letter also stated that FIFA is willing to mediate between the government and the FKF to find a solution to the current impasse.

However, the FKF officials were barred from accessing their offices at Kasarani on Thursday evening, with police acting under instruction from the Ministry of Sports. The government had formed a 12-member caretaker committee to run the affairs of the Federation after receiving a report from the Sports Registrar's team.
