On October 23, 2021, a 41-year-old South Sudanese national, Maketh Kuany chol, died in Eldoret after allegedly drinking a herbal concoction administered by a local herbalist, Ann Mosop.

Chol, who lived in Australia, had traveled to visit the country before seeking the services of Mosop, who is known to his family.

Mosop, 52, appeared before presiding Judge Eric Ogola on Thursday and denied the allegations, stating she had not killed Chol.

Following a mental assessment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Mosop was deemed fit to stand trial.

Justice Ogola directed the probation officers to work on a report within two weeks before the court rules on bond terms.
