Published on November 11, 2021, a devastating road accident occurred at the Migaa black spot along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, claiming the lives of two people.
The accident involved two trucks heading towards Nakuru, one ferrying maize and another loaded with firewood. According to Area Chief Zack Monari, the truck ferrying maize hit two successive speed bumps, causing the driver to lose control and collide with another truck.
"The driver of the first truck and the conductor of the second truck died on the spot," said Monari.
First responder and nominated ward representative Rachel Maru revealed that the driver of the second truck was rescued and rushed to hospital, while the second occupant of the first truck escaped unscathed.
Maru attributed the severity of the accident to the presence of speed bumps, which have been blamed for multiple accidents in the area. She also emphasized the importance of the median barrier separating traffic flowing in opposite directions, which she believes prevented further fatalities.
Maru urged the government to expedite the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway project, which would provide extra lanes and help minimize accidents.
