On September 19, a tragic incident occurred at Longisa trading centre in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, where a 30-year-old man, Peter Ekai, lost his life after being stabbed by his friend, Elphas Kipkoech.
According to reports, the two men had been drinking at a local bar when they disagreed and fought. Kipkoech, 26, allegedly stabbed Ekai in the chest, leading to his death.
Elphas Kipkoech appeared before Justice Eric Ogola of the High Court in Eldoret on Thursday and denied the charges. A mental assessment report from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) indicated that Kipkoech was fit to stand trial.
Police reports revealed that both men sustained injuries during the fight. Ekai was treated at MTRH but succumbed to his injuries. Kipkoech was treated and discharged before being arrested by officers from Eldoret Police Station.
Justice Ogola directed that a probation report be prepared for consideration of the bond application made by the accused. Kipkoech was remanded at Eldoret GK Prison until December 16, when a ruling on his bond application will be delivered.
