Kenya's government has announced plans to construct 78 new classrooms in Mwala Sub County as part of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) Infrastructure Development project.
According to Area Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Damaris Mutanu, the new classrooms will be built in the next six months to ease the transition of learners from primary school to junior secondary school in 2023.
Speaking at the Sub County Development Implementation Coordination Committee, Mutanu emphasized the importance of having infrastructure in place for the CBC and the 100 percent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools.
“The classrooms should be complete by April because the intention is to have infrastructure in place for the CBC and the 100 percent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools,” she said.
Out of the 58 schools selected for the project, three will receive three classrooms each, while 14 will get two classrooms. The remaining schools will have one classroom constructed.
Construction of the classrooms will be carried out by local contractors, with 51 having already applied for the project. Mutanu called on more local contractors to tender for the work, with the deadline for applications being November 12.
“The deadline for the application for the works is November 12 and we are appealing to as many local contractors to apply,” she said.
