On November 11, 2021, a court in Embu handed down a 40-year jail sentence to Erick Karenga, a 19-year-old man found guilty of defiling a two-year-old girl.
The incident occurred on July 13, 2018, when Karenga, then 16 years old, committed the offence at Kavaari village in Mbuvori, Embu North.
Senior Resident Magistrate Juliana Ndeng'eri dismissed Karenga's defence, stating that he was caught red-handed defiling the minor.
"At the age of two, the minor only knew peace and love. However, the two were taken away and this changed her life completely," said Magistrate Ndeng'eri.
The magistrate noted that the probation officer's report had painted Karenga in a poor light, citing him as a paedophile and expressing concern over his character.
