November 11, 2021, marked a significant day in Kenya's political landscape as United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party chairman Johnson Muthama fired a warning shot at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Through a detailed letter, Muthama accused ODM of allegedly orchestrating chaos at Kondele, Kisumu county, during a campaign rally for Deputy President William Ruto.
"The stoning of the Deputy President William Ruto's campaign entourage at Kondele, Kisumu county, yesterday is a wake-up call by not only citizens of Kenya but also by the institutions charged with ensuring peaceful elections and transition next year," the letter reads.
Muthama also criticized the Kenya Police and National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for their inaction in the face of the chaos.
"Curiously, the Kenya Police and NCIC have remained aloof and have not acted in a way that would inspire confidence from Kenyans," he added.
He further faulted the Kenya Police for issuing a statement that was seen as defending ODM's strategy in the chaos.
UDA chairman Johnson Muthama has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to disqualify ODM from participating in the 2022 general election, citing the alleged involvement in the Kondele chaos.
