Why Kisumu Employees Outshine Their Nairobi, Mombasa Counterparts ¶
When it comes to job satisfaction, location is just one of many factors at play. A recent report, filed on November 10, 2021, sheds light on the reasons behind the happiness of employees in Kisumu, Nairobi, and Mombasa.
According to the Kenya Employee Satisfaction Report 2021, Kisumu residents are more satisfied with their jobs compared to those in Nairobi and Mombasa. The report revealed that 52% of Kisumu residents are happy with their current roles, while 31% are neutral about whether they are willing to leave their current employer.
This is the highest figure among the three capital cities, with 35% of Mombasa residents and 41% of Nairobi residents expressing happiness with their respective jobs.
The report analyzed various factors, including age group, job security, gender, job level, education level, salary brackets, and work experience. Job security and age bracket stood out as key factors contributing to the satisfaction of Kisumu residents.
One reason for the high job satisfaction in Kisumu is the limited opportunities available in the region. This leads to a high flight risk, as many people seek greener pastures in Nairobi and Mombasa. As a result, the few remaining employees in Kisumu are confident in their working space.
Age is also a significant factor linked to job satisfaction. The youngest respondents were found to be the happiest and least willing to leave their current employer, while the oldest respondents posed the highest flight risk.
“The youngest respondents are the happiest and least willing to leave their current employer while the oldest respondents pose the highest flight risk,” an excerpt from the report read.
“This could be driven by a search for better career opportunities or a more challenging working environment with cross-functional collaboration,” the report added.
