Published on November 11, 2021, Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has shifted the blame for the chaos in Kondele to Deputy President William Ruto.

According to Raila, Ruto's remarks during a roadside rally in Kondele provoked the youth, leading to the stoning of his convoy.

"If you yourself utter a speech that makes the crowd angry, this may make some people react and take action in unsavoury ways," Raila said in an interview with Mbaitu FM.

Despite the incident, which left at least seven vehicles, including Ruto's, stoned, Raila expressed optimism about the country's democratic progress.

"Democracy is continuing to thrive in our country," he said.

Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the rowdy crowd, which had blocked Ruto's convoy from accessing Kondele.

Meanwhile, Ruto condemned the incident, calling on political leaders to stop inciting youths.

"The leader of ODM should stop using innocent youth to throw stones at other leaders because we have matured as a democracy," Ruto said.
