On July 5, 2019, a Nairobi court extended the detention of State House digital director Dennis Itumbi for five more days to allow police complete their investigation into a fake letter claiming a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

Itumbi was being held at Muthaiga Police Station, where authorities claim police officers allowed him to spend a long time outside his cell with friends, resulting in photos being taken and shared on social media.

One of the photos shows Itumbi with television journalist Jacque Maribe, politician Josiah Murigu, and his brother David Itumbi.

According to a source, police boss Alphonse Kimengua is facing disciplinary action for failing to follow rules and regulations of detention.
