On November 7, 2021, Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp's team suffered a 3-2 Premier League loss at West Ham United, a defeat that left him fuming. The loss saw West Ham leapfrog Liverpool in the standings and move up to third place.
According to Klopp, two major incidents went unpunished by the referee and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Stuart Attwell. The first incident involved a foul on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker by West Ham's Angelo Ogbonna, which led to an own goal by Alisson in the fourth minute.
"I think it's a clear foul on Alisson, how can it not be? The arm from Ogbonna is there. I really don't know who was VAR today," Klopp said in a post-match interview.
Klopp was also critical of West Ham left back Aaron Cresswell's studs-up challenge that caught Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson on the knee, calling it a "clear red card".
"Yes he (Cresswell) touched the ball, but if it's a reckless challenge it doesn't matter if you touch the ball. You cannot go high up like that," Klopp added.
With the loss, Liverpool dropped down to fourth place, a point behind West Ham and four points behind league leaders Chelsea.
