On July 5, 2019, Nimo Sheikh made history by becoming the first female chair of KUSO, the Kenya University Student Organization. The election, which was live and free, marked a significant milestone for the organization.
Nimo Sheikh, who has been serving as the vice chair since last year, garnered the majority of votes against Fikirini Jacobs, Isaac Ogona, and Paul Karanja. The voting process was restricted to 10 students per institution, as announced by the commission.
Other positions were won by Eugene Musungu (Deputy Chair), Caste Micheni (Deputy Chair 2), Sammy Militia (Secretary General), Sylviah Nyawira (Treasurer), Samwel Ayoma (National Coordinator), Frank Nyagah (KUSO Ambassador), and Haron Kinyua (TVETS Rep).
Nimo Sheikh is expected to be sworn in early next week, taking over from Antony Manyara who has served as chair for a year. This achievement marks a significant step forward for women in leadership positions within the organization.
