On November 3, 2021, the Kenya Film Commission unveiled nominees for the 11th edition of the Kalasha International Film and TV awards, featuring a total of 145 nominees selected from 706 entries.
The nominees were chosen by a seven-member jury academy, comprising industry professionals from various sectors, including Valentine Zikki (Kenya Actors Guild), Moses Wamalwa (Kenya Scriptwriters Guild), Emmah Kibunja (Jambowood), Earnest Livasia (Association of Animation Artists in Kenya), Simiyu Barasa (Riverwood Ensemble), Leo Mutisya (Media Council of Kenya), and Sheila Murumba (Communication Authority of Kenya).
Public voting for the nominees opened on November 3, 2021, and will close on December 3, 2021, with the awards ceremony scheduled for December 10, 2021. The public vote constitutes 30% of the total vote, while the jury holds 70%.
The Kenya Film Commission CEO, Timothy Owase, reiterated the organization's commitment to recognizing and awarding local talent, stating, 'We remain aware of the need to continually create avenues for local film makers to be recognized for their efforts in moving the industry forward.'
The Kalasha International Film and TV awards, launched 10 years ago, is held annually to recognize film makers in Kenya. The awards ceremony will feature various categories, including film and TV categories, as well as special categories for student films and animation productions.
